Status:
While awaiting parts from the campus machine shop, the team has scheduled the prototype production agenda for the week. A testing station at a team members house is being set up to test the strength of spar by using stress assessments. The “results” section of the report will be updated following the hardware testing. Despite the delays with receiving parts, the final prototype is expected to be completed and components tested by this weekend. A meeting was also had with Professor Maziar to confirm the accuracy and validity of the CAD model simulations for the spar mooring final design.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Continued work on Final Report
Corrections from TA/Instructor comments were made on Final Report
Second Draft of the report
Completed Preliminary Design Review Presentation
Updated documentation on website
Team discussed with Professor Maziar to get advice on what needs to be fixed and improved.
Spar couplings were delivered and retrieved
Met with Professor Maziar and discussed current Soldworks and Matlab simulation. Received feedback on how to improve solidworks simulation. Discussed current constraints on the spar and how they can be improved.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item)
Update and finish the complete draft of Final Report(Team)
Meet with Professor Maziar as requested to have him verify the team’s final Solidworks simulations (Ayesha Riaz & Eliran Lenard & Horim Yu)
Begin working on final design review presentation (Team)
Update the team website and have it ready for sponsor presentation (Team)
Purchase the last necessary parts (foam, steel rope, fasteners and clamps) ( Eliran Lenard & Erik Zamarripa)
Submit a reimbursement form to Roxanne (Eliran Lenard & Erik Zamarripa)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Technical drawing representation was inaccurate (guy wire placement depiction). The drawing was updated to reflect the final intended design and included in the final report.
Reinforcing the bottom coupling attached to the base was a concern that was addressed by adding a secondary PVC layer in the coupling where the hinge pin will be inserted through
Otherwise, approved of the final design and encouraged getting the hardware testing completed at earliest convenience
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting
Add fillets around the ADV cutout door because of stress concentration at the corners
Concerned if the galvanized guy wires are being used- suggested stainless steel ropes
Discussed the design of ADV fixture/mount, how is the probe being held on the cutout door.
Comments from Other Students in the Class
Feedback and Questions from PDR presentation that will be received this week
Review on final report from peer team will be returned this week
Risks and Areas of Concern
Ensure the ADV probe holder is rigid and maneuverable for the divers
Add more PVC to hinge area since that is a high stress area
Schedule
Describe upcoming milestone
Receive manufactured parts and components with reamed holes (3/3/21)
Assemble final prototype (3/3/21-3/5/21)
Hardware testing (3/6/21-3/8/21)
Update Gantt chart.
- Manufacture/assembly of the final design (03/03/2021)
