Status: Team is nearing the end of the design stage and is beginning to work on parts purchasing and fabrication. Concentrated efforts are going to be made on generating simulations with more constraints to better model underwater conditions and getting sponsor and machinist approval for machined/ 3D parts that are still being finalized.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Calculations were revisited after sponsor commented on inaccuracies
Concept design for swivel hinge base was approved by sponsor
Completed design proposal presentation and the risk reduction that went along with it
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Finish design of ADV on Solidworks (Ayesha and Eliran Lenard)
Finish base design (Eliran Lenard, Ayesha)
Work on Final Report (Team)
Complete an up-to-date draft of chapter 2 (Erik Zamarripa)
Find ABS supplier and possibly buy one ABS pipe (Team)
Review safety and tolerance measurements of components to ensure designed components fit as intended (Ayesha)
Contact Ed Pogue for guidance on MATLAB simulations and FEA simulations (Erik Zamarripa & Eliran Lenard)
Buy low density foam via Amazon (Team)
Review and prepare purchasing documents (Horim Yu)
FEA and Calculations (Horim Yu and Eliran Lenard )
Start working on the prototype (Erik Zamarripa & Ayesha Riaz & Eliran Lenard)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting (zoom meeting 1/19/21)
Discussed FEA analysis on the current design
Finalized the ADV and probe holder concept design
Commented the calculation of wave and flow. Problem being addressed by reviewing offshore hydrodynamics and contacting educational staff
Approved the concept design for swivel hinge base
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (1/19/2021)
Review the Units on slide 4 - FEA simulation (English and proper units)
Discussed the threads and the easy way the cut the pvc pipe
Discussed the principle stresses being applied on the whole spar - FEA
The placement of the guywires on the spar
Concern of using Delrin/ Galvanized/ stainless steel
Comments from Other Students in the Class (via email - 1/19/21)
Presentation feedback:
Make slides less cluttered and stay within the time constraints
Overwhelming data and significant figures for values given
Better clarity in figures
Improve FEA simulation. There are errors regarding placement of constraints and forces. Risks and Areas of Concern
Assure that the holding mechanism for the ADV probe is sound
FEA forces are correct, such as adding constraints and forces
