Status:
In-person group meeting times have been solidified after schedule conflicts the previous week. The final parts list is being finalized. There are still some parts that need to be decided on, however, parts to fabricate and build a single spar section are being prioritized to confirm the efficacy of our ADV mounting fixture design. Calculations and simulation constraints have been updated and guy wire placements have been made to the model. In-person group meeting times have been solidified after schedule conflicts the previous week.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Contacted Ed Pogue for guidance on MATLAB simulations and FEA simulations
Wave and flow Equations were revised after the meeting with the sponsor
Components were finalized for the prototype
Started working on the prototype
The whole assembly of the system was completed in Solidworks
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Work on Final Report, All portions of the draft have some material in them - 50% completed (Team)
Appendix B, and E (Ayesha Riaz)
Appendix C and F (Horim Yu)
Appendix G and H (Eliran Lenard)
Appendix A and D (Erik Zamarripa)
Chapter 2, 4 (Team)
Intermediate peer review (Team)
First draft of team webpage (Team)
Finalize FEA/MATLAB Simulations and Calculations (Horim Yu and Eliran Lenard)
Purchase ABS, hose clamps, oscillating saw, and foam (Team)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting (zoom meeting 1/26/21)
Discussed the modes that needs to be considered
Commented the calculations of wave and flow
Quasi steady drag force (shallow water)
Added mass
Mentioned the need to optimize placement of the guy wires on the spar
Stressed the priority of creating the ADV holding spar section, so as to focus on that and fabricating the base and any parts that need to be machined or printed
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions (1/26/2021)
Discussed the sponsor comments about the drag force, guywire, prototype
Discussed if the parts of the system will be machined or 3d printing (MAE lab). The team may use local resources for 3D printing, and once the CAM for the spar base is done, Tom will be contacted to confirm its design and get it machined
Supplier/cutting of ABS - $240 40ft 6” Dia.
Foam concern (previously have been used by the sponsor). We will confirm the specs of the foam are appropriate, such as its compressive strength and permeability
Discussed the quantity/reason of rubber connectors and concerns of joint linearity or non-linearity, structure, forces, bending stiffness
Different methods to attaching guy wires
Comments from Other Students in the Class (via email - 1/26/21)
Improve FEA simulation. There are errors regarding placement of constraints and forces. Risks and Areas of Concern
Assure that the holding mechanism for the ADV probe is sound
FEA forces are correct, such as adding constraints and forces
Schedule
Describe upcoming milestone
Manufacture Prototype (02/07/2021)
Update Gantt chart.
Stress/fatigue test on the prototype (02/07/2021)
