Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.

• Finalized frame design and began sending designs to machine shop.

• Initial version of GUI developed to control the 3D Magnetic Control System.

• Created first prototype of C-bar magnet

• Created a GUI to control the 3D Magnetic Control System.

• Prototype C-magnet with 170 wrappings

• Created Toolpath for transformer inspired solenoid (and dropped off stock to be machined)

• Fit frame and conduct a full assembly of parts (CAD)

  • Create toolpaths for Tom to machine

• Continue creating toolpath for anything that needs CNC and design spool-like structure to slide coils easily (John)

• Wrap machined iron cores with coil (design prewrapping jig) (Joseph)

Risks and Areas of Concern

• Welding/fusing strength of iron core return path structure for C-bar inspired design.

• Viability of C-shaped magnet design. Initial testing revealed that this design does not produce as strong a magnetic field as originally believed.

  • • After using basic calculations, the issue is strongly linked to Iron Core purity

• Ensuring that the final system is safe (i.e. in regards to electrical, heat, etc. concerns).
