Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.

• Redefined scope of project to produce less than 1 Tesla of magnetic field density.

• Redesigned frame to meet new design scope requirements.

• Control system now capable of controlling magnetic field density in three dimensions.

Accomplishments from Previous Week

• Ran optimization simulation to optimize wire gauge, solenoid radius, and number of coil turns.

• Simulated the magnetic homogeneity of solenoid using Finite Element Method Magnetics.

• Continued testing new solenoid designs.

• Machined C-shaped iron core for use as a more powerful electromagnet.

• Continue testing electromagnet designs and configurations.

• Machine individual frame components and assemble the frame.

• Include additional safety features (i.e. kill switch, fuses, and ground the system) to the device's electronics.

• Failure in electrical circuit (e.g. driver burnout, short circuit, etc.).

• Electric discharge

• Strong magnetic fields

• Improperly constrained Helmholtz coils could harm bystanders if they fall off the test bench.

• Project budget is relatively small so team needs to use resources efficiently.

• Project scope has been updated since last week

• Led to redesign of many of the project's designs.
