Team 5 Progress Report for Week 9
What has been done in the past week
Conducted research on the following topics:
Determine Electromagnet Simulation Methods in Literature -- Joseph Martin
Hysterisis -- Everbrooke Zhou
Winding Method -- Jae Hyeog Lee
Effects of overheating in solenoids-- Tanner Hanson
Feedback from meeting with sponsor
1. Updated technical criteria:
a. max magnetic field density of 20mT without iron core
b. Use of core material to amplify Tesla
2. Updated relative risk qualification
Feedback from last meeting with instructor
Updates to power point presentation slides
- Use of Visuals
- Introduction to topics and why soft robotics important
- Better project definition
Identify High Risk areas and focus on the most important risks
Read Research Article with research questions in mind
List your current concern according to the
importance
Risk assessment:
1. Determining if Iron cores effect magnetic field as expected
2. Determine homogeneity of magnetic field within helmholtz coils (simulation)
3. Determine stability (overheating) of coils operating for 5 min
4. Determine required frame materials for strength, magnetic properties, ease of purchase
What is the next step of your project
Work on risk reduction:
● Jae Lee will look into mount materials with respect to strength, accessibility and
magnetic properties
● Everbrook Zhou will look into the iron core’s magnetic properties
● Tanner Hanson will continue looking into the effects of heating on the solenoids
● Joe Martin will work on refining the simulations
