MAE 156B Week 9 Progress Report
Project Title: Locomotion Monitoring System for Mouse Cognitive Behavioral Task
Sponsor Name: Bloodgood Lab and Hnasko Lab
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Fabrication set to be completed midweek
Optical encoder testing has begun
Motor control testing wrapping up
Begun software reprogramming from Raspberry Pi to Arduino/MATLAB per sponsor’s request
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Capacitive sensor tested and working
Hnasko air chamber fabricated
Hnasko motor mounts designed and most have been fabricated
Disk flanges for both labs fabricated
Bearings received
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Finalize system testing and packaging for both chambers (Michal)
FInal draft of report and poster, and lickometer integration (Philip)
Test disk pushing force, disk surface preparation (David)
Data acquisition system and user interface (Jeff)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Hnasko Lab: Wanted Raspberry Pi replaced by Arduino, control should be handled by MATLAB; optical encoder we currently have is good, no concerns about resolution
Bloodgood Lab: Okay with transferring from Raspberry Pi to Arduino/MATLAB
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Comment: Look into lighter density foam
Action: Investigated feasibility for lighter density foam, none found that were rigid enough, will be using spokes to reduce inertia
Risks and Areas of Concern
Concern: Remaining time may be insufficient to implement all desired parts of design
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Documentation of large motor
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
$2,525.41 spent thus far
$974.59 remaining
