MAE 156B Week 7 Progress Report
Project Title: Locomotion Monitoring System for Mouse Cognitive Behavioral Task
Sponsor Name: Bloodgood Lab and Hnasko Lab
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Optical encoder housing designed, fabricated, and tested
Disk cut and tested (testing paper covers)
Acrylic bought and cut
Some components have arrived (skeleton frame for air chamber assembled)
Lickometer hardware designed
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Optical encoder housing 3D printed
Acrylic purchased
Acrylic and gaskets cut
Frame for air chamber stand assembled
All t-slotted aluminum bars for Hnasko and Bloodgood systems ordered
Confirmed with labs that capacitance of mouse is similar to that of a human, specifically that a touchscreen can register a mouse’s touch
Confirmed that grounding a mouse is feasible but requires 2 weeks notice to add to surgical procedure
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Assemble Bloodgood air chamber and integrate impeller (Michal)
Design flange bearing for disk (David)
Assemble liquid reward delivery system hardware (Philip)
Implement impeller power control hardware (Jeff)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Bloodgood lab might want real time data
Hnasko lab might need higher temporal resolution
Confirmed that lickometer design was valid
Specified that Bloodgood lab track needs 6in tall walls on the side
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Comment: Run time of experiments for data storage concern
Action: Spoke with sponsor who verified maximum experiment run time of 1 hour
General comments about report and web page
Action: No current action however edits in the report will reflect feedback
Optical encoder performance for varying disk height.
Action: No further action however testing will be conducted the following week
Risks and Areas of Concern
Testing requirements for validation of system for the course
Inability to air seal motorized impeller
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Stand-in 48V power supply to use while waiting for final product power supply
Proper use of vibration dampening grommets
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
