The Humanities Department
In Humanities, we inspire, engage, and connect! Our collaborative team brings subjects like history and geography to life through exciting events, real-world challenges, and big questions that spark curiosity. Inside our classrooms, you’ll find students actively engaged, asking questions, exploring perspectives, and connecting ideas. Through meaningful learning experiences, students enjoy aha moments, discover their interests, and begin to find themselves in the topics that matter most to them.
This year was especially memorable, as we truly brought this vision to life by making learning more relevant, exciting, and student-centered than ever before!
This year in Humanities, our classrooms were full of color, creativity, and curiosity. From building models and ecosystems to crafting ancient sites, mapping global issues, and exploring culture through art and design; students learned by doing.
These hands-on activities helped bring complex topics to life and gave our learners the chance to think critically, collaborate, and connect what they study to the real world. We’re proud of how they explored, questioned, created, and grew; learning was truly active and engaging every step of the way!
We proudly partnered with other departments to create meaningful, interdisciplinary learning experiences for our students.
For the Qatar Astronomy Project, we joined the Science Department to explore the Sun’s formation and the development of sunspots, raising student awareness about space science and its impact on our planet. Students engaged in interactive sessions and came away with a deeper understanding of astronomy and its global relevance.
On World Peace Day, we collaborated again with Science to reflect on the concept of peace. Students shared their personal definitions and messages of peace on a dedicated board, creating a thoughtful and inspiring display of their voices.
We also joined forces with the English Department on Dictionary Day, promoting the value of language across subjects. In Humanities lessons, students practiced using dictionaries to enhance their vocabulary and research skills; an important reminder of how tools like dictionaries support academic success in all areas.
These moments of collaboration helped enrich student learning, highlight global themes, and demonstrate the power of working together across disciplines.
We proudly held our 7th Annual Armistice Day, a moving event dedicated to remembering the veterans and all those affected by World War I. Students commemorated this important day through original films, powerful poetry readings, and student-led projects that brought history to life.
A special highlight was a live musical performance by Yael Ezekiel Carig, former two-time Historian of the Year and last year’s valedictorian, who performed Christmas in the Trenches, a heartfelt tribute that touched all in attendance.
Special thanks to Mr. Gunnar for organizing this event!
This year’s International Day was a beautiful celebration of the rich diversity within our school community. Students and staff came together to showcase their cultures through traditional clothing, music, performances, food, and interactive displays that highlighted the unique heritage of countries from around the world.
Our school was transformed into a global village where every student had the chance to learn, connect, and take pride in their identity and those of others. Classrooms turned into cultural hubs, filled with flags, photos, and meaningful symbols of tradition.
It was more than just a day of celebration. It was a powerful reminder of the value of inclusion, respect, and global understanding. We’re proud of our students for embracing each other’s backgrounds and for helping to make this event a joyful success.
EMS is truly a school where the world comes together!
