Technological Change

1905 :

• Samuel J. Bens was first to invent the chainsaw. A chainsaw conveniently speeds up the process of cutting down a tree and therefore speeds up the production industry. However, chainsaws can sometimes be dangerous if not handled correctly.

1908:

• The first assembly line car that was truly affordable was the Model T Ford created by Henry T Ford. This invention revolutionized the means of transportation and would become one of the most important transports, replacing horse drawn carriages.

1920's:

• Albert W. Hull invented the very first magnetron. Later on Arthur L. Samuel and then then John Randal and Harry Boot invented much stronger versions of the magnetron that could be used in planes , submarines, and ships.

1921:

• The original polygraph was invented by John Larson a psychologist working in California. A polygraph is a lie detector and later became important in helping to understand if a criminal suspect is lying.

1938:

• Chester Carlson invented to the principle to photocopiers. Although it was years later till a photocopier was made this important discovery changed the way that offices and document work was done.

1956:

• The first nuclear power plant was opened at Calder Hall in Cumbria, England. This invention was a contributor to power use. There is however a controversy whether nuclear power is dangerous and unnecessary or if it is better for the climate change.
