Wilfred Owen was born in Shropshire , England in 1893. He attended Birkenhead Institute and Shrewsbury Technical School. He then passed the entrance exam for the University of London but did not receive a scholarship so he ended up being a tutor in France. When World War I began Owen returned to Great Britain and began fighting in 1915. He ended up getting wounded and traumatized after being falling into a deep whole during battle and remaining there for three days. He was later taken to Edinburgh , Scotland with shell shock and was in the same hospital as Siegfried Sassoon. Sassoon soon became Owen's mentor and inspired him about the negativity of war. Owen ended up publishing four poems later on. His poems reflected the darkness and horror of war. He died at the age of 25 in 1915 after returning to the war. After his death Sassoon published many of Owens poems which led to some scholars believing that he was the best poet of World War I.
