5 Methods to Communicate with Parents
Introduce yourself with a smile and in a welcoming tone. Make parents feel that you are open to communicate and leave a positive impression. Learn the parent's names as well and discuss goals for their student.
Open lines of communication and use them frequently. Give parent's your contact information and get theirs so that you can keep them up to date with their student. Always lead any communication with good news, and communicate with them frequently to keep them involved in the student's education. Along with this have a translator if needed to include all parents.
Listen to parents. Though you are there to inform parents on their child's education and well-being, they are the child's parent and have more authority. Be understanding with parent's concerns and answer questions that they might have. Remember that you are there to help as best you can, but it needs to be through a collaboration between the parents and the teacher.
Give support and resources to parents, especially when involving them is decisions. Give tools to help their students suceed outside of the classroom educationally and personally. For example, when a behavioral issue comes up, provide the parent with tools and resources to help reduce behavioral issues in the future.
Build a community. Create a community with students, their parents, and teachers. Make all feel welcomed and connected. This helps students feel more comfortable with other students as well as bring others together. It also build bonds outside of the classroom and makes for a healthy learning environment.
