Week 2
April 7 - April 11
April 7 - April 11
For our second week we started our mindfulness through movement. Jemma and Addie started the morning with their AP Macroeconomics class from 8:52 to 9:59, where we finished up reviewing our last homework of the year. Later in the day, Katie attended her macro class from 11:21 to 12:55. Throughout the day, we focused on preparing for the upcoming week—finalizing plans, organizing tasks, and making sure we’re staying on track with our timeline. We reached out to our outside mentor to schedule a yoga session for tomorrow April 8th, which we’re really looking forward to as part of our mindfulness practice.
We also did reasearch about what app we want to use to record our interviews and space to keep all of our recordings. We decided to record everything on an app called Voice Memos where we will edit them and upload to our podcast at the end of the week.
We ended the day with a SoulCycle class together in Chestnut Hill at 5:30. It was a great way to disconnect from the world as our phones were in lockers and we were able to feel in the moment. Our instructor Marissa had such great energy and made the experience super positive. She encouraged everyone to go at their own pace, which was really helpful as it was one of our first times riding. It was a great way to unwind, reset, and feel encouraged for the rest of the week.
At the end of class, we asked Marissa a few questions about her job as an instructor. Her words of inspiration were recorded on our podcast which will be edited and posted at the end of this week. As we want to include all activities from this week in the mindfulness for movement podcast.
Today, Addie and Jemma had macro from 7:42- 8:47. Afterwords we all met for a yoga class at the Medfield Yoga Studio for "Slow Flow". This class really helped us feel grounded and connected our minds to our breathing with small movements. Our instructor Katherine Postulka made us feel welcome as it was our first yoga class. She walked us through each movement and kept telling us to focus on our breathing. Some of the excersizes were challenging as a first-timer to balance. However, she mentioned ways to modify a movement. We were able to ask her a few questions after class that we will include in our podcast later in the week. Following our class we met at Blue Moon to work on our blog.
In the afternoon, we visited Babson College where we interviewed three college athletes about their perspectives on how regular exercise plays a role in their mental health and well-being. They gave us some insight on how they don't typically go to podcasts and would rather listen to music because it helps them focus more on the workout rather than listening and taking in what the podcast has to say.
After hearing what our yoga instructor had to say versus the college athletes, it made us realize people approach mindfulness through movement in different ways. However, everyone wants to reach the same end goal, which is to feel more relaxed and connected to their body. The first girl we talked to was in a private glass room (photo on the left) training for volleyball. She used this time to focus on herself without any other distractions. The second group of girls were entering the gym ready to workout with high energy. They shared that working out helps them release the energy built up throughout the day, and it often leaves them feeling better about themselves.
Today we started off our day with a online class of Pilates at Kingsbury Club. Unfortunately, we were not able to go to a class so we searched up a 45 minute class on youtube with a resistance band and dumbells. We recorded how the workout went after.
Following the class we all met at Blue Moon to continue to work on our blog. After blue moon we met with Dr. Worthley at 12pm to update him on our progress and ask him for some advice on how to make our podcast more in depth.
Katie then had her macro class from 1:00-2:07, during this Addie and Jemma continued to work on updating the blog. We also added a resources part of the blog with articles that help explain the benefits of excersize. Feel free to check it out!!
We interviewed Katie's older sister Emma, who recently graduated from Elon University in May of 2024 (picture on the left) She is very busy as she works in Boston for KPMG as an accountant. She works long hours and commutes everyday. However each week she does a pilates workout online with only needing a yoga mat, dumbells, and a resistance band. She does this workout about three times a week because she says it helps her stay in shape and move her body with only needing 45 minutes of her day. If you want to hear more about the interview stay tuned for the podcast that will be uploaded soon!!
Updated the blog and starting setting up the description and overview for the first podcast episode which will be called "Mindfulness Through Movement".
Today was a big day for editing the various clips from our interviews, along with segments featuring the hosts (Katie, Jemma, Addie) - where we each came on to share our experiences and reflect on how things went. However, we ran into a major obstacle when trying to upload our clips from Voice Memos to the podcast app. We are continuing to edit the podcast and it will be ready next week due to inconveniences.
