Cavies must remain in building until release time (6:00 PM) If any cavy leaves the building before 6:00 PM or without the permission from the Cavy Coordinator or Barn Manager, the 4-H/FFA member will forfeit their ability to show in any project at the Pima County Fair next year.
Requirements to show at Fair:
a) All Cavy project exhibitors must take the YQCA Assurance class (Youth for the Quality Care of Animals) either online (https://yqcaprogram.org/) or in person. Please email your completed certificate to pimacounty4Hcavy@gmail.com by 11:59 pm on January 31, 2025.
b) All cavy exhibitors must attend a minimum of 2 shows or clinics to participate in the Pima County Fair. This can be the Fur and Feather show (November 2nd, 2024) or Rabbit/Cavy Classic (January 11th, 2025). With prior approval from the coordinator, exhibitors may also attend an event outside the county or participate in a national show. Examples include the Gila County Show, the Maricopa County Show, the ARBA National Show, the ACBA Specialty Show, etc. These will be posted on Facebook or the 4-H Event Calendar as the dates become available.
c) FAIR WORKDAY (All Cavy project participants must attend this day unless prior arrangements have been made with the Cavy Coordinator): April 12, 2025; 8:00 AM. If an exhibitor misses Fair Workday, their club’s total herdsmanship points may be deducted from the total earned. If a child is sick, please contact the Coordinator prior to 8:00 AM of Fair Workday.
d) There will be a $1 per cage fee for each entry into the fair. The maximum number of entries is 10 cavies. Fees must be paid at check-in. Cash or Check Accepted only
Old Pueblo Hall Exhibits required for ALL projects by ALL Pima 4-H County Fair Exhibitors.
e) Those showing at the 2025 Pima County Fair must enter an exhibit into OPH that is related to their fair project. For those with multiple fair projects, please select one project to represent in OPH. Each individual showman should be creating their own exhibit for OPH based on their individual project. Exhibits can include posters (22"x28" or smaller), photography, baking, welding, etc. Feel free to get creative with these exhibits. This excludes FFA members.
SMALL STOCK AUCTION:
a) The W-9 forms must be submitted to the project coordinator by 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 20th, 2025, along with a verbal declaration of the intent to auction their cavy. Their cavy will need to stay at the fairgrounds if they are going to auction their cavy. Should the child choose to auction a different small stock animal instead of their cavy, they are required to communicate their decision verbally to either the cavy coordinator or the Superintendent no later than 5:00 PM on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025.
a. Exhibitors in the 4-H program are not permitted to take home the cavy that is not being auctioned until Fair check-out day, which is Sunday, April 27th, 2025 @ 6:00 PM. Furthermore, the 4-H exhibitor is obligated to care for their cavy throughout this period instead of other 4-H participants.
b. If an exhibitor is not taking care of their cavy, the Project Coordinator may issue a written warning to the Exhibitor.
c. If an exhibitor still does not provide proper care for their cavy, the Project Coordinator may require the Exhibitor to REMOVE ALL THEIR ANIMALS and/or forfeit any awards and/or ban the exhibitor from showing in future Pima County Fairs.
b) For the small stock auction, cavies must be two years of age or younger and have been awarded a blue ribbon at the Cavy Breed Show.
c) Showmanship is required for any exhibitor who wishes to enter an animal in the Small Stock Auction.

IN THE EVENT OF A CANCELLATION OF THE PIMA COUNTY FAIR- NEW DATES AND DEADLINES WILL BE SENT OUT VIA EMAIL.
The following pertain to Advanced Cavy Genetic & Projects:
a) Open only to members participating in at least their second or third year of the Cavy project and enrolled with the Pima County Extension office in the Senior Cavy Project by January 1 of the current year. Advanced members must be in their fourth (4) year or more of the project.
b) The project must be approved by the Project Coordinator before filling out the entry form. If live animals are included in the exhibit, they may also be entered in the appropriate cavy breed class. Total animals entered in breed judging may not exceed the limit of 10 animals per exhibitor per project.
c) Enter the project by sending an email to the Project Coordinator & Project Superintendent and include a description. Record books or posters are due at check-in.
d) Projects will be displayed in Old Pueblo Hall and must be completed by 12:00 PM on Fair workday.
All classes will be judged by the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) Standards and the Judge's decision will be final.
