FAIR WORKDAY: April 12th 8am MANDATORY FOR ALL EXHIBITORS
FAIR CHECK-IN DATE:
Monday, April 21nd, 2025- 7:00 AM- 9:00 AM and then from 4:30 PM- 7:00 PM. Exhibitor must be in line by 7:00
Animals cannot be left at the fairgrounds without being checked in. If you have an emergency, be sure to contact the Project Coordinator immediately.

Old Pueblo Hall Exhibits required for ALL projects by ALL Pima 4-H County Fair Exhibitors.
Those showing at the 2025 Pima County Fair must enter an exhibit into OPH that is related to their fair project. For those with multiple fair projects, please select one project to represent in OPH. Each individual showman should be creating their own exhibit for OPH based on their individual project. Exhibits can include posters (22"x28" or smaller), photography, baking, welding, etc. feel free to get creative with these exhibits. This excludes FFA members.
A. Three (3) market goats may be ear tagged at this time per exhibitor, but only two (2) market goats may be brought onto the fairgrounds. Upon arrival at tagging, animals will be health checked. Any animal deemed unhealthy by project director or Extension Agent due to injury or illness will not be tagged. Unhealthy animals can be classified as, but not limited to, any animal with open wounds including recently castrated animals, animals with open sores, or any other open and bleeding wound.
B. A $20.00 project fee (per animal) supporting the Market Goat Project will be collected at the time of ear tagging.
C. Each member must be able to provide proof of Quality Assurance that is valid through April 28th, 2024. Acceptable forms include the YQLA or Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) Course in either, email, digital or physical copy.
D. No BUCKS will be ear tagged, testicles must be removed from the animal or band in place. Bucks that have been castrated must not have open or bleeding wounds at the time of tagging.
E. Market Goat class weights:
a. Minimum weight at tagging: None
b. Maximum weight at tagging: None
c. Minimum weight at Fair: 70 lbs.
d. Maximum weight at Fair: None
i. Please note that an exhibitor will be paid for a maximum sale weight of 120 lbs.
ii. Please reference the Pima County Junior Livestock Sales, Inc. Auction Rules.
F. The exhibitor must have a paper copy of the Arizona Department of Agriculture Seasonal Pass. At the Ear-tagging, members must provide a paper copy of the Arizona Department of Agriculture Seasonal Pass, proof of YQCA certification, a completed w-9, and proof of ownership as per the Arizona State Livestock Board Requirements(self-inspection paperwork). Market goats from Arizona must have an Arizona Department of Agriculture Scrapies ID tag. If market goats from out-of-state must have documentation and out-of-state scrapies ID tag, and have ownership or self-inspection papers must be in the exhibitor name. If for any reason the scrapies tag comes out you must inform the coordinator, 4-H agent and leader as soon as possible with a picture of the tag and the goat's ear at that time coordinator and 4-H agent will determine the resolution.
G. Ownership and registration papers must be in the exhibitor’s name or proof of possession of the same documents at the time of ear-tagging or registration. AZ Department of Ag. Self-Inspection forms must be the original copy and cannot be on a cell phone or a photo-copy.
H. An IRS Form W-9 will be required at Ear-Tagging for each exhibitor with a market animal.
I. In the event of a county ear-tag falling out prior to Fair Check-In, members should immediately contact the County 4-H Agent for a replacement. If replacement is not possible, the County 4-H Agent will devise an alternative after animal identification has been verified.
J. All exhibitors must participate in at least one (1) jackpot show, clinic, or mock show with at least one of their project animals prior to check-in at the Pima County Fair. Exhibitors who attend a show or clinic not sponsored by the Pima County 4-H Sheep and Goat Leader’s Committee must submit a Pima County 4-H Sheep & Goat Project Show/Clinic Attendance Form at Check-In.
K. Each animal must have its own AZ Dept. of Ag Seasonal Pass at ear tagging.
J. Goats must have milk teeth and no signs of ruptured teeth at the time of tagging.

L. Arizona Bred & Fed forms must be turned in at time of ear tagging. Animals must have an ear tag intact at fair check-in to be eligible for AZ Bred & Fed Class. See General Livestock Rules
M. Goats must be dehorned and fully healed prior also to ear tagging.
N. All exhibitors must participate in at least one (1) jackpot show, clinic, or mock show with at least one of their project animals prior to check-in at the Pima County Fair. Exhibitors who attend a show or clinic not sponsored by the Pima County 4-H Sheep and Goat Leader’s Committee must submit a Pima County 4-H Sheep & Goat Project Show/Clinic Attendance Form at Check-In.
O Scurs may not be longer than 1 inch at Fair Check-in with discretion of the coordinator.
P. All Market goats must be slick shorn to 1/8” at Fair Check-In. Touch-ups may happen at the county fair.
a. Animals may not be clipped in the tack rooms, pens or any other area other than the designated clipping area. Failure to comply with the clipping location rule may result in expulsion from the barn.
Q. Adhesives and paints cannot be used above the hock of the animal for Market and Showmanship Classes. Paint cannot be used to alter the natural color of the animal’s body.
R. All goats should be shown with either a chain collar or a show halter.
S. At the time of arrival at the livestock barn, there will be a health check conducted by the check in staff appointed by the coordinator. During the health check, the animal will not be admitted if there are any open or bleeding wounds or visible illness which includes, but are not limited to, active fungus and/or ringworm outbreak.
a. These leaders will be designated by the Project Director and/or Superintendent.
b. This inspection will be conducted before the animal is placed on the scale.
c. Once the animal has been cleared and weighed, it is considered acceptable for participation.
d. Animals with open/bleeding wounds will not be allowed to return for a check-in once they have been presented to the check-in inspection. Animals with healed, or treated wounds will be accepted at the discretion of the inspection committee.
T. All animals must have bedding by the end of the check-in day.

U. Second part helpers will be allowed only upon discretion of the Project Coordinator. Second part helpers must be currently enrolled members of Pima County 4-H/FFA or certified leaders.

V. Classes will be divided by the Project Director and Superintendent.
W. If an exhibitor has two animals in the final drive of the market show, the exhibitor will show the highest placing animal. If one of the animals is selected as Grand Champion, the exhibitor must take over with the other entry, for the Reserve Champion drive.
X. Non-sale market goats will be released Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. THE MARKET GOAT Project Coordinator, or extension staff, must be present in order for animal to be released.
Y. In the event of not being able to contact the Project Coordinator, the Project Superintendent may step in to make decisions, or deal with issues. The substitution of authority will be made at the discretion of the Project Coordinator.
A. Arizona Bred and Fed are goats bred, conceived, born, raised and fed on Arizona soil. B. Exhibitors with goats eligible for the Arizona Bred and Fed class must complete a form at ear-tagging notifying the Project Coordinator of intent to exhibit in the Arizona Bred and Fed Market Goat class. Forms will be available from the Project Coordinator, Superintendent and the Extension Office. C. Exhibitors in Arizona Bred and Fed class must have a Livestock Inspection Certificate showing place of birth as Arizona to qualify and must provide a form with the breeder’s name, phone and signature. Ear Tag must be intact at fair check-in to be eligible to show in Bred and Fed class. D. AZ Bred & Fed Class is optional. If the overall Grand Champion or Reserve Champion Market Goat is an AZ Bred & Fed animal, the top two animals automatically win the AZ Bred & Fed Class. Paperwork will be verified prior to decision on whether to have an AZ Bred & Fed Class In the event of needing a separate Bred & Fed Show, the top 2 blue ribbon in-state goats from each class will make the AZ Bred & Fed Show at the discretion of the Project Coordinator.
