This course has three major components. Human anatomy identifies individual parts of the body and relates them to the whole. Physiology provides an understanding of the functions of the parts of the body. Pathology relates a specific disorder to the abnormal functioning of the whole organism. Interwoven into each unit is a discussion about the medical field. Dissection laboratory activities are included in this course. The class meets two periods per day to allow a full year’s work to be covered in a single semester.
Students will be involved in medical rotations during the second semester assuming availability. These rotations occur at Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare, DeVries Animal Hospital, NovaCare Physical Therapy, and any other off-site locations.
Immunization verification including a current flu shot, Covid19 vaccination, and 2-step Mantoux TB testing is required. This course is a prerequisite for Medical Internship and is open only to students planning to take both courses. Early graduates will not be considered for admission to the program.
