Chemistry: #0251
EL Chemistry: #02L1
Grades: 10-12
2.0 Credits: Full Year Physical Science
Science Prerequisite: Biology
NCAA approved
This course fills two (2) credits towards the six (6) Science credits required for graduation
In this course, students examine the structure of matter, the changes it undergoes, and the energy changes that accompany the changes in matter.
Connections are made between what can be observed at the macroscopic level in the real world and what happens at the microscopic level with particles at the atomic and molecular level. Students will also learn how to model and represent concepts through formulas, calculations, and structural drawings.
Students will learn chemical concepts through a variety of real-world contexts. This course in the physical sciences is the second step of the general sequence that prepares for college.
Chemistry is also offered as an EL course. EL Chemistry is designed for non-native English speakers. It helps develop the academic language and science practices necessary for further coursework.
