Department: Visual/Performing Arts 06315 This course is designed to develop the students' ability to read and write four-part music and provides ear training for intervals, scales, and chords. Students learn to recognize and use basic components and music including notation, rhythm and meter, melody, scales, key signatures, intervals and triads. Students will practice constructing melodies and writing in four parts. The course includes an introduction to systems of music from a variety of cultures and time periods. This course is an excellent preparation for college-level music theory. Upon completion, students will be eligible to take the AP examination in Music Theory that may qualify for college credit.
