Course Description:
The Advanced Placement Biology curriculum is equivalent to a college course usually taken by biology majors during their first year of college. The course differs significantly from a first year high school Biology course with respect to the kind of textbook used, the range and depth of topics covered, the kind of laboratory work done by students, and the time and effort required by the students.
The course includes all the enduring understandings, essential knowledge and learning objectives listed in the AP Curriculum Framework. Because science is not simply an accumulation of facts, but a process that continues to develop, the topics of the course are presented through the four Big Ideas of biology and the seven Science Practices found in the AP Biology curricular requirements. The Big Ideas and Science Practices allow students to see the interconnections between topics and concepts within the course.
