Elk Grove FFA - About Us

Our History

Founded in 1929 with just twelve members, Elk Grove FFA quickly developed a reputation for producing outstanding young farmers who returned to strengthen their family operations. Over time, the program evolved to meet the changing needs of students and the agriculture industry. While production agriculture remains a cornerstone, the past 96 years have seen a strong emphasis on developing leadership skills, engaging in community service, fostering personal growth, and preparing students for success in any career they choose. Today, Elk Grove FFA continues to build on its rich history while embracing innovation and inclusivity.

For nearly the past century, Elk Grove FFA has consistently ranked among the top five chapters in California — a recognition earned through academic excellence and the success of both students and advisors. Within the last five years, more than 90% of Ag Department graduates have pursued higher education, demonstrating the program’s commitment to long-term student success.

Our Mission and Vision

Elk Grove FFA aligns with the National FFA Organization’s mission: to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. Our vision is to grow leaders, build communities, and strengthen agriculture.

As part of Elk Grove High School and the Elk Grove Unified School District, we share in the district’s mission to provide a high-quality education that prepares every student to be a responsible, productive citizen in a diverse society. By combining academic instruction, leadership training, and real-world agricultural experiences, Elk Grove FFA serves as a bridge between the classroom and future careers — equipping students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to succeed.

Achievement and Recognition

Elk Grove FFA is proud of its tradition of excellence at the state and national levels. The chapter’s accomplishments include 1,186 State FFA Degree recipients, 46 State Proficiency Awards, 133 American Farmer Degree recipients, 75 State Championship Career Development Event (CDE) teams, 5 State Championship Leadership Development Event (LDE) teams, and 3 National Championship teams. These achievements reflect the dedication, talent, and determination of our members.

Among the chapter’s most notable achievements is the election of Abigale Jacobsen as the first ever National FFA Officer from Elk Grove FFA: a milestone that inspires current and future members to dream big and aim high.

Programs and Opportunities

Elk Grove FFA offers a wide range of opportunities for students through the Sustainable Agricultural Green Academy, a variety of agriculture and career technical education courses, and active participation in FFA. Students gain hands-on experience through the school’s farm, which is home to more than 140 animals including hogs, steers, lambs, goats, rabbits, chickens, and turkeys. All agriculture students have the chance to work at the farm, learning about animal care, agricultural science, and the daily operations of a working farm.

The program supports both market and breeding livestock projects, with many students choosing to raise animals as part of their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects. Nearly all market animals are shown and sold at the Sacramento County Fair, where students showcase their skills, earn recognition, and develop career-readiness.
