We have had great fun this week experimenting with the electrical components and the snaptricity boxes. Some of us took a long time to work out how to construct a circuit, but we all managed it in the end. There was a definite "buzz" in the classroom when we succeeded and made bulbs light up, buzzers sound and motors spin.

This week in Maths, Mrs Reynolds' Maths Group have been investigating fractions. We learned that a fraction is a part of a whole. They occur when you divide a whole into equal parts. We now know that some fractions are equivalent to each other. They are written with different numbers but they mean the same amount. We had great fun using a fraction wall, fractions stacks and playdoh to see and feel how equivalent fractions work. We had great fun.
In Mrs Reynolds' Maths Group, we have been learning all about equivalent fractions and how to make fractions of amounts. We completed a treasure hunt to find equivalent fraction drawings, fractions, decimals and money.
We used folded paper as a 'cake' and distributed our 'chocolate button/smartie' counters so that there was an equal amount on each piece of cake. We used this information to find out how many decorations would be on amounts of piece.
We discovered that to find fractions of a whole, we first divide the whole number by the denominator and then times the answer by the numerator. We learned the rhyme " Divide by the bottom and multiply by the top".

Today, we were Anglo Saxons for the day on our school trip to Layer Marney Tower. We had a fabulous time, riding on a double decker bus to the beautiful Medieval Tower nr. Colchester, which is built on an old Anglo Saxon site. Our guides, Hilary and Jackie, were very knowledgeable and taught us all about artfacts, village life, arts and crafts and Invaders and Settlers through 4 interesting activities. We were able to touch real Anglo Saxon objects that were crafted many 1600 years ago and we even learned that they softened their leather and animal skin using poo! Yuk! We each made an Anglo Saxon pot from clay and a brooch from metal - just like the Anglo Saxons. We behaved impeccably and we were a credit to our school. Thank you to our parent helpers and thank you Layer Marney Tower!
