We got off to a great start this half term by looking at Google Drive on the Chromebooks. We have learned how to add a folder to our drive and how to start a new Google Docs document. (A bit like Microsoft Word). We have learned how to name the document and how to type and change the style, position and colour of the font that we are using. This will be an essential skill as we progress throught the school. Didn't we do well in our 'Skills Test'?
In Geography this half term, we will be doing map work with a view to creating our own map to accompany our Superhero Diary work. We have looked at the idea of using symbols on a map instead of words and we had great fun trying to navigate our way around the classroom with a compass.
Science this half term is all about Sound: how sounds are made, how they travel and how we hear them. We had lots of fun this week making vibrations using different instruments. We learned that a sound is made by vibrating an object which in turn, vibrates the air around the object. Sound travels like a wave into our ear where it makes our inner ear vibrate and our brain then interprets the sound.
We have has a super day full of fundraising and fun. We wore our own clothes and something spotty to school and we donated to Children in Need online. During our day, we did Pudsey Bear related Maths and English tasks and took part in the Joe Wicks PE/ Quiz, where each exercise was the answer to a question. We have really enjoyed helping children less fortunate than ourselves!
This afternoon we got creative and christmassy making stained glass window decorations . We used tracing paper and laminating to create our frame and then coloured our baubles with felt pens to make the stained glass effect. As you can see, they look great on the window or hanging from the tree.
Happy Christmas everyone!
In DT, we have been looking at designing a logo for a superhero suit. We studied the features of logos-simple, shapes, letters, symbols- and came up with our own to go with the superhero we created in English. Today we brought our designs to life in felt, using a running stitch to join our fabric together. We all worked really hard and managed the task independently. We now have an appreciation of how hard it is to thread a needle and how difficult it is to tie a knot!!

Year 4 have been looking at poetry this week. We have been learning how to perform 'The Jabberwocky' by Lewis Carroll. We have learned how to 'perform' using facial expressions, changes of voice and actions to draw our audience in so that they can 'experience' the poem. Didn't we do well?
4R Performing The Jabberwocky
For the past 10 weeks, we have been very lucky to have Mrs Tong in school who has taught year 4 to play the recorder. We have learned how to make a quality sound, how to play the notes B,A and G and some of us have learned C & D too! We know how to find the notes on the music stave and we have been practicing how to read music and play at the same time. Our lessons culminated in a performance of some Christmas Carols. Can you hear our harmonies?
In our Science lessons we have been learning about how sound travels. We used string telephones to send messages. The sound vibrations travelled through the string to our friend's ear.
Today was Christmas dinner day! It was delicious! We had great fun pulling crackers and singing to 'Last Christmas' while we ate our turkey dinner and chocolate cake. Merry Christmas everyone!
Today we performed our superhero dance, wearing the superhero and villain masks that we created. During our dance lessons, we have been Choreographing a routine to the theme tune from The Avengers. Our routine had to include: superhero poses, jumps, turns, travelling, call and response and mirror moves. Can you see them? We had a great time performing for the other year 4 class.
We made it! We had a great time today, taking part in Christmas quizzes, doing our Good to be Green activities and watching a fabulous show, organised by our PA. The Skittle man was festive, frantic and fun with lots of audience ( and teacher!) participation. Thank you PA. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a fabulous New Year 2022! See you in January!
