In Geography, we will be looking at the Earth and it's landscapes. We have started by studying the Arctic and Antarctic (the North and South Poles). We found out facts about these fascinating places and then created a Venn diagram to show the similarities and differences between the two.
We have had great fun in Science this week, learning about Solids, Liquids and Gases. We did a Science investigation to find out about the gasses around us. Take a look at our pictures and ask us to explain them...
This week we have begun our Year 4 music lessons. We are learning to play the recorder. So far we have talked about pulse and dynanics and have learned to play the note 'B' on our recorders. Look how well we did...
On Wednesday afternoons, we have been learning all about the skills needed to play Hockey. We know how to hold the hockey stick safely and are working on how to 'dribble' the ball along a line, keeping full control of it.
This week, we have continued our work about the different States of Matter. We have been focusing on temperature and how to measure it. We talked about melting ice and measured the temperature of water, ice, and ourselves!
In PSHCE, we have been learning to identify our feelings. In Year 3, we used the Colour Monster to understand what emotions we are experiencing and now we know how this links to Zones of Regulation. The Green Zone means we are 'Ready to Learn' so this is where we want to be at school. Yellow emotions are worried, or a little excited. Blue emotions link to sadness, tiredness and illness. If we are in the Red zone, our emotions are 'out of control'; either too over excited or too angry to concentrate at all. We have talked about how it is absolutely fine to be in many of these zones throughout the day. However, sometimes we may need help to regulate our feelings and get back to Green so we made these posters of ideas to help each other to be ready to learn.
What a great start to the week, Quaser Chris (not Quaver Crisps) from Mad Science came in to run a "states of matter" workshop. We learned all about Dry Ice (Frozen Carbon Dioxide) and sublimation (change from solid straight to a gas). We had a dry ice shower, listened to a spoon screaming, erupted a dry ice foam volcano and made slime. We also made our own salt dough volcanoes - watch this space for our eruptions!
As our salt dough volcanoes had compleyely dried out, we painted them this morning and then watched them erupt. First we mixed together Bicarbonate of Soda, washing up liquid, red or orange paint (well, it needed to look like lava!) and a little warm water as the heat would help the reaction. Group by group, we added some vinegar which is an acid. When the vinegar reacted with the Bicarbonate of Soda, Carbon Dioxide gas was created which made our volcanoes fizz and erupt over the top!
We used the Magic Multiplying machine and our white board sliders to learn how to multiply and divide by 10 and 100. We now know that we don't "add" a 0 we slide the digits to the right or left!
Computing Autumn 1
In computing, we have been learning how to use Google drive now we have our own school logins. We practised changing the appearance and layout of text on Google Docs by using different colours, sizes and fonts. We also explored how to change the position of text and how to make it bold and underlined. Here are a couple examples of our work which we completed on Google Classroom.
