For my personal project, I studied affective science (study of emotions) and created my product based on that, which is a prototype app- It detects your emotion and if your emotion is a negative one, the app recommends ways to improve your mood. If your mood is positive, it gives suggestions on how to maintain your positive state.
For my project I did extensive research, which I documented fully in my process journal. I did an interview with a psychologist, studied multiple different sources and compared different theories on emotions, and more. I also used previous knowledge I had gained from taking my business elective in the past few years- that information would be used when I am presenting this product posing as a company representative.
This screenshot shows the user interface of the app. Since I have no experience or interest in coding, I did not make the app itself- I made a prototype of the app, of which I made a presentation. While presenting, I would pose as a company (representative) that has created this app and is presenting the idea to multiple possible people who I could hire to make the app for the company.
Overall my experience with the personal project was quite educational. It was certainly stressful at some points, but the personal project can be done well if you just manage time properly. Get it started early, do your research, and gather material, so that you won't be struggling at a later stage. When it comes to your advisors, you really need to take the initiative to plan the meetings yourself- this is important. Getting some advice from a different person's point of view could really make your life a whole lot easier! :). Choose topics that you know you won't lose interest in and you'll do great! Good luck!
