Make your own ROBOT!
We have been learning about driving and coding robots. Now it's your turn to make your own robot. Find some things around the house that you might be able to use.
Design your robot then have a go at making it.
You might like to write a story about an adventure your robot goes on!
Give your robot a name and share a picture of your robot on our celebration wall.
Years 3-6 may continue working on their Sustainable Homes project in Minecraft Education. Remember you can visit the Lumin's Power challenges to get ideas, as well as the Minecraft Sustainable City. When you are building your sustainable home, remember to think like the 'game-maker' would and include signs, chalkboards, challenges and trails for you users to enjoy playing and learning at the same time.
Unplugged Activity: We have been learning about robotics, coding and programming. Can you write, draw or invent with other symbols your very own code?
Start by writing out our alphabet, then match each letter to your own code of symbols or drawings.
Then write a message using your own code. Give your message, and code to someone else to see if they can figure it out? Good luck!
You might like to write me a message on our celebration wall, if you provide me with your code, I can try and work it out!
We have been learning how to code robots using instructions.
Here is a LEGO game to play, that works in a similar way.
You will need:
LEGO and some cardboard or a book to separate you and someone else you are playing with.
One person is the "programmer" and one person is the "computer".
The programmer builds a small LEGO structure, then provides the same type of LEGO pieces to the 'computer' player, who hasn't seen the built LEGO.
Then, one instruction at a time, the programmer tries to explain how to build the LEGO structure in exactly the same way.
Remember, don't let the 'computer' person see the LEGO structure, try and get them to build it exactly the same way using your verbal instructions only. Good luck, and share on our celebration wall.
Maybe you might like to try something from here to share with us on the Celebration wall.
Can you find some objects in your home that you could balance like this?
You don't have to try any of these at home as some of them are a bit tricky - but can you work out what is happening in them?
Investigating water, can you tell me the three forms that water can be in on our planet?
This experiment is to test ways to keep ice longer. You will need some fabric, paper towel, foil, plastic, a cup and a glass jar with a lid. You will also need some ice cubes.
After doing this experiment, can you think of a better way to measure the ice cubes before and after?
Drop some food dye into the oil. Then pout the oil into the jar of water - predict what will happen to the food dye?
This was my end result after I waited slowly...
If you dare - try this egg challenge and home, and if you have success you might like to record this to place on our celebration wall. Can you explain what is happening?
CELEBRATION WALL HOUSE POINTS COMPETITION - 100 House points up for grabs for each post.
Check out this AWESOME Street Science website. There are lots of great DIY Science Experiments. Instead of me telling you what to do - in order to celebrate National Science Week I want you to CHOOSE YOUR OWN Experiment, have a go at home and upload to our celebration wall. Will you do the acid rain, or underwater fireworks or make your own musical instrument?
Good luck - Happy National Science Week!
If you create a costume for our At Home Science Week Dress up - you can also use that costume when we return for school to celebrate BOOK WEEK AND WATER WEEK - as the theme is Underwater!
For National Science Week - You might like to get dressed up in something to do with Science. This year's theme is Deep Blue: innovations for the future of our oceans.
It might be your favourite underwater creature, you might make a fish masks, a science fiction character, an astronaut or a famous scientist that you know? Share it with us on the celebration wall
This is me dressed up as an astronaut because I just love space! I have even used the costume and pretended to be a captain in a submarine, exploring the depths of the Mariana Trench.
Can you make a catapult from LEGO? See how far you can send some LEGO objects? Can you measure the furthest one, and challenge someone else in your family?
Can you build a LEGO character?
Can you make a LEGO garden?
Click on this image, you will see an option box pop up, click on the square with the arrow -this will take you to the site so you can follow the instructions and watch the video. Good luck!
