MPRPS Let’sTALK Team
The Let’sTALK program has been implemented across the school to facilitate open discussion between students and staff about issues that students may be facing. Let’s TALK mentors are comprised of teachers and educational support staff that have undertaken additional training.
Recently, MPRPS introduced the Let’sTALK buddy program, which is designed to empower students in grades 4, 5 and 6 to act as peer mentors. Let’sTALK buddies help to provide an additional layer of wellbeing support by listening to the problems of their peers. These buddies are trained to use the Let’sTALK acronym to help manage minor issues their peers might be facing. Let’sTALK buddies recently visited the junior school classrooms to help promote the program and educate junior school students on the importance of talking about their problems and not bottling them up.
Let’sTALK buddy training will again be offered to students in grades 4, 5 and 6 in 2022. We look forward to building this program further and providing additional leadership opportunities for our senior students.
Senior school students have also been investigating the Let’sTALK acronym in wellbeing lessons. They have been developing their talking and listening skills, so that they can provide support to their peers when required.
Imagine a world where everyone can feel safe to talk about their worries with their family, friends, teachers, colleagues and healthcare professionals. Psychological safety is possible when we value and promote open conversations, and provide greater education on ways to lend a compassionate ear with care and no judgement.
