Gratitude

Practicing gratitude on a regular basis has been proven to help people feel happier, support sleep, to assist people to express compassion and kindness and even improve immune systems. It helps us to focus on the positives, rather the negatives of our day.

A way to start practicing gratitude is to ask "What am I grateful for today?" and make it specific to YOU. It can be a big idea "I am grateful to have access to education" or little "I am grateful I have a banana muffin in my snack today."

MPRPS students practice gratitude in circle times, writing, as a warm up or as part of a Wellbeing lesson. At home, you can talk about this at the dinner table or to help your child focus on the positives of the day at bedtime.

Staff also participate in gratitude, as a warm up during staff or team meetings.

Examples of gratitude from MPRPS students - 3/4 students during remote learning (2020) and 5/6 students when onsite (2021).

Gratitude Song Lyrics:

I have food in my belly…Munch, munch, munch

Shoes on my feet…Stomp, stomp, stomp

A roof overhead…I’m safe and dry

A bed to sleep on…Shhhh, shhhh, shhhh

What else are you grateful for?…

I have water to drink…Glug, glug, glug

Friends to play with…Hello, hello, hello

Books to read…Read, read, read

A wonderful School…Mount Pleasant Road

What else are you grateful for?…

REPEAT

(SECOND TIME THROUGH)

What are you all grateful for………today?
