Further Study: university, TAFE and private collegesÂ
There are a range of education providers for further study:
Universities
Courses are usually 3+ years
Courses are generally bachelor's degrees or double degrees.
Some professions require degrees (eg, medicine, law, etc)
Most courses are partially subsidised by the government.
Students attend a mix of lectures and classes.
There is often (but not always) a more academic focus and less hands on learning.
An ATAR is usually (nut not always) required.
TAFEs
Courses offered range from a few weeks to a couple of years or even three.
Courses can be short courses, Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Associate Degrees.
A range of vocational qualifications are available as well as pathways to a huge range of professions as well as credit towards university study.
Most courses are subsidised. Some courses in priority areas are FREE.
Students attend classes and workshops that are more similar to the size of school classes.
There is often more hands-on learning.
An ATAR is usually NOT required.
Private Education Providers
These providers offer a range of courses and course lengths.
Many of these providers focus on a particular industry.
Many of these courses have hands-on components (depending on their focus).
Fewer of these courses offer subsidised places.
An ATAR is often not required.
Class sizes are generally smaller than university lectures.
