At Donvale Primary School we all use the SMART spelling program, from Foundation to Year 6.
SMART spelling is based around whole words with an emphasis on meaning and vocabulary development.
Each week students are explicitly taught a specific spelling pattern. Teachers follow the SMART spelling sequence to teach the weekly spelling words

M - Meaning
A- Analyse
R- Remember
T- Teach

Week 1
Each student has their spelling words for weeks 1-4 in their new home learning packs. This also includes a Look,Say, Cover, Write, Check sheet, a Word Search and a Word Focus sheet. Students can choose each week which of these two spelling activities they'd like to complete.
Grade 3 words focus on the graph /u/ making the "w" sound as in quilt.
The Grade 4 words will focus on the digraph /ci/ making the "sh sound as in special.
Students are expected to upload their words onto Literacy Planet every Monday after attending the Webex with their classrooom teacher.
Moving forward complete one spelling activity per day from the grid and/or Literacy Planet.
