Throughout the term, Foundation students will cover a variety of topics across the curriculum.
Along with assigned tasks on Seesaw, MathSeeds and Mathletics students will be able to access a range of resources from their classroom on a fortnightly basis and find additional activity ideas here on the Learning Hub.
Although there will be a weekly numeracy topic (for example, measurement) the most important maths learning that your child can do is developing their number sense. This allows students to develop a variety of strategies to work with numbers in different ways and sets up solid foundations for their future maths learning. Please try to incorporate as much maths learning into your home schedule as possible.
Some ways to do this include:
Counting objects forwards and backwards.
Comparing collections of objects and determining which is smaller or larger.
Rolling a dice and writing the numbers that come before and after.
Count how many times you can do an activity in a row (throw and catch a ball or star jumps).
Finding numbers 1-10 (or beyond) from around the house and ordering them.
Daily number formation on tracing sheets or whiteboards, these clips can assist students with this: Chant and Write, the Numeral Song, Writing Numbers.
Using packs of cards to compare, order and create numbers.
This platform will be updated with maths activities and links on a fortnightly basis to assist with your home learning.
Each fortnight you will have the opportunity to collect new maths resources from the classroom which correlate with our numeracy curriculum.
