Welcome to the 2023 school year
Welcome to our first school newsletter for 2023 and a big welcome to our new families joining us at Tamworth West this year. We are so pleased that you have joined our beautiful school and we can only hope that you grow to love it as much as we do.
Today was of course, our first day back for students across all years of schooling. We had a great day! It was so lovely to hear about holiday adventures, Christmas presents and even some misadventures! It is incredible to see how much some of our cherubs have grown.
Then, there are our new kindergarten students. It is so easy to forget how little and young our students are when they first arrive at ‘big school’. And, how daunting it can be to spend whole days away from mums, dads and families. In general, they were very brave and are probably extremely exhausted this afternoon.
Our School Newsletter
Our school newsletter is published monthly. It is normally uploaded to the website and our school Facebook page on the first school day of each month (excluding when the 1st of the month falls during school holidays). There are times when our best-laid plans don’t work, but we generally do our best to let you know if the newsletter is going to be delayed.
For February, we are ahead of the game. We thought it made sense to send our information home today rather than make you wait until tomorrow. What you will notice is that our February newsletter is an abridged version of what you will normally receive. We know, however, that by the time our March newsletter is published, we will have lots of activities and events to report on.
Sentral
At Tamworth West Public School, we use the Sentral application to support administration, communication, wellbeing and reporting. The Parent Portal can be used to manage attendance and receive communications such as notes, newsletters and reminders. We have prepared a letter for all new families providing details on how to access the Parent Portal and including your unique family key. If you didn’t receive your letter today, please contact the front office.
If you are an existing Tamworth West Public School family and you have not yet activated your Parent Portal, you are also encouraged to contact the front office so we can provide you with your access key and assist you if required.
Mr Scott Munday is our contact person for families trying to access Sentral. He can be contacted through the front office
on 6765 8316.
2023 Classes and Staffing
Today, students were placed into interim classes for 2023. As has happened in previous years, students have been placed into classes based on a range of information. This includes academic results, support needs, friendship groups and behaviours. All students have at least one of their chosen friends in their class for this year.
It is our intention to maintain our classes if at all possible. This might have to change, however, if our numbers increase or decrease dramatically. We are hoping to finalise classes by the end of this week.
Each year we farewell a number of staff. For 2023, the following staff are not returning to Tamworth West Public School and we wish them all the best with their endeavours:
• Katie Massey (leave)
• Kahla May (leave)
• Crystal Flick (staff movement to Oxley Vale PS)
• Karen Wise (staff movement to Westdale PS)
• Maree Black (leave)

Our school organisation and class structure for 2023 is as follows:
Student Leader Induction Ceremony
Our student leaders for 2023 will be finalised by the start of next week and we will be holding our annual student leader induction ceremony from 10:50 am on Wednesday 8 February.
Updated Information and General Permission Notes
We are trying something new this year. At the start of next week, all students will bring home an updated information and general permission note. This note will be on blue paper in line with our process here at Tamworth West Public School – IF IT’S ON BLUE, THERE IS SOMETHING FOR YOU TO DO!
Please complete this form for each of your children and return it to their classroom teachers so we can ensure that the information we have on our system is as up to date as possible.
As a part of this form, you will be also asked to provide or decline permission for a number of things including:
• General permission to participate in local school endorsed activities
• Permission to watch G or PG movies/broadcasts in association with class-based activities, wet weather or excursions
• Media permission
• Permission to participate in weekly SRE lessons
• Permission to use third-party applications in line with class-based or homework activities
An explanation of each of the individual permission requirements will be provided and parents/carers will need to indicate whether they grant or decline permission for each section.
We thank you in advance for taking the time to consider these areas early in the year and we hope that this will save us all time throughout the year.
