Welcome to the end of the 2022 school year
As the 2022 school year comes to its conclusion, I acknowledge the contributions by parents, carers, teachers and students to Tamworth West Public School’s phenomenal year of achievements as a school.
To all students, congratulations on a very successful year of learning and leadership. 2022 has been an extremely successful year at Tamworth West Public School. We have achieved some outstanding results in all areas of the curriculum – especially in relation to our NAPLAN results. Our reading results have grown from 21% of students achieving in the top two bands in 2017 to 40% of students this year, while our numeracy results have grown from 8% of students in the top two bands in 2018 to 17% this year. Next year we will be introducing the new English and Math Syllabus into our K-2 classrooms and working with the Department’s Strategic Support team to really focus on numeracy across Years 3-6. Students who attend Tamworth West Public School receive a quality well rounded education, an education that offers diversity and opportunity.
A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Tamworth West. They are a dedicated group of professionals and our students are very fortunate to have them as part of their learning journey.
I would also like to thank our hardworking P&C. They are a small group, but they work extremely hard for the betterment of our school environment and we really appreciate all they do.
Thank you to the parents, carers, grandparents and community members who help us in so many ways throughout the year. In classrooms, on sporting fields, on excursions, in the canteen and in so many other ways. The list is endless. Your support really is valued and appreciated.
The partnership of caring, hardworking and dedicated teachers, enthusiastic and self-motivated students and supportive parents creates an environment that really does provide students with the opportunity to achieve personal excellence.
Change in schools is inevitable and as this year draws to close, we have a number of changes afoot. In 2023, Miss Katie Massey and Ms Kahla May will be accessing leave. We wish them the best and look forward to welcoming them back to Tamworth West in 2024.
Next year, we also have some staff on temporary staff movements to other schools. Mrs Wise will be working at Westdale PS and Mrs Flick is making the move to Oxley Vale PS for 2023. Our loss is their gain and we trust they will enjoy their time in a new setting.
Mrs Maree Black will also be accessing leave in 2023, pending retirement. We wish Maree all the best and sincerely hope that her retirement is wonderful and we wish her lots of joyous time with her family.
When one door closes, another one opens and such, we will be welcoming a number of new faces to Tamworth West PS. Mrs Christy Grassick will be our new Business Manager and we welcome Ms Dara McAuley and Ms Ainslie Hobson to our front office. Ms Ashley Chaffey will be joining us as a School Learning Support Officer. We are also fortunate to be welcoming Mrs Kylie Taber, Ms Grace Firth-Panetta, Miss Chelsie Rivenell and Mr Cody Edstein-Boyes as classroom teachers.
I would like to end by extending my best wishes to our year 6 students on their move to high school and the next chapter in their lives. I wish them well in everything they do and encourage them not to be strangers. They will always be connected to Tamworth West PS and we are very proud of them..
I wish you all a safe and happy Christmas. It is a privilege to be Principal of Tamworth West Public School and I look forward to working with you in 2023.
