Students in the Support Unit have spent the year developing and refining their cooking skills as part of their life skills program.
They have enjoyed baking cakes and cookies each week to sell in our Coffee Monkey Cafe, which operates every Friday. Through these sessions, students have been learning the importance of following step-by-step instructions, measuring ingredients accurately, and using basic kitchen skills such as pre-heating the oven, using baking equipment safely, and completing the clean-up process. These skills are essential for building their confidence and independence as they grow to become successful and engaged learners.
Additionally, throughout Term 4, our incoming Year 6 students have begun their transition into the Support Unit as they prepare for high school. During their second transition visit, students took part in an exciting hands-on Science lesson, where they were introduced to one of the key pieces of laboratory equipment, the Bunsen burner. They labelled the different components, learned the safety procedures involved, and even had the opportunity to light a Bunsen burner!
We look forward to them joining our school in 2026.
