This year, the Maths faculty have placed a strong emphasis on numeracy by teaching our students the essential skill of reading and understanding questions effectively. We were explicitly guiding them to break down and deconstruct questions to enhance comprehension and problem-solving skills. This focused approach has led to an impressive 16.3-point growth in NAPLAN scores from Year 7 to Year 9. Congratulations are due to both our students and staff for this outstanding achievement.
In May, five of our mathematically talented students participated in the Year 11 Talented Students Day hosted by Sydney Technical High School. The day brought together like-minded peers to tackle challenging mathematical problems that required teamwork, logical reasoning, higher-order thinking, problem-solving, and clear communication. We are incredibly proud that our team placed 2nd overall—and were the highest-ranking Comprehensive High School. Special congratulations to our five students, Mochu, Gabriel, Jiawei, Dinh Phuc (Jake) , and Jingyi (Eris), for their exceptional performance.
This year also marks the first time we are offering Mathematics Standard 1. We are thrilled to see that this subject is proving to be an excellent fit for our students, helping them engage meaningfully with maths content suited to their needs.
We would also like to acknowledge all our Year 12 students who have dedicated themselves throughout the year across all mathematics courses. Among them, we have 10 Extension 2 and 18 Extension 1 students completing their HSC this year, eagerly awaiting their results. Their hard work and commitment have been impressive, and we wish every Year 12 student the very best as they await their outcomes.
Mathematics is truly a journey of discovery—each solution leads to new questions and opportunities to explore. We look forward to 2026, confident that our students and teachers will continue to collaborate and achieve even greater success.
