Music
The Music Department has been busy with a wide range of classes this term. Our Year 7 students have been learning a variety of songs on the piano and keyboard, while our Year 8 classes have taken on more advanced band pieces, including the contemporary Australian song Confidence by Ocean Alley.
Our senior students continue to develop their individual performance pieces, and our Year 10 band recently competed in a “Battle of the Bands” competition at Endeavour Sports High School. The band performed brilliantly, achieving an impressive 2nd place — just one point behind the winners! We look forward to competing again next year and bringing home the title.
Languages
Term 4 has been an exciting and productive time for the Languages Department. Our Year 7 Japanese students have been exploring the 2020/2021 Tokyo Olympics, examining the event’s cultural significance and its impact on modern Japan. In Chinese, classes have been investigating the meanings and symbolism of colour across language and culture, sparking some fascinating discussions.
The department has also been preparing for our senior Chinese classes in 2026, with Chinese Beginners and Chinese Literature to be offered. We’re thrilled to see growing interest in learning Chinese and look forward to continuing to celebrate the rich cultural perspectives our language learners bring to our school community.
Visual Arts
Our Visual Arts students have been working across all stages in a variety of mediums, including clay, watercolour, papier-mâché, painting, charcoal, and sketching. Of particular note is the “Young Archie” project, where Year 8 students emulate Archibald Prize entrants by creating portraits of famous people. Meanwhile, our Year 9 students are producing beautiful clay artworks inspired by flora and fauna in their Organica topic.
