At Preston Lodge, Inclusion is part of a whole-school culture where every student is part of our community.
We are incredibly proud of the high-quality relationships and ethos we have in our school.
We believe that every student can succeed socially, emotionally, and academically and provide the necessary supports to ensure this happens.
Inclusion means that students are supported to access as much of mainstream education as possible, whether that means direct support in the classroom from skilled adults or engaging with the Inclusion & Nurture team to facilitate this over time and with the right package in place.
We believe that the emotional readiness to learn underpins all successful academic progress and that it is a whole-school responsibility for every adult in the building to ensure that the learning environment is consistent, safe, accessible and predictable. In this way, the young people at Preston Lodge can fulfil their potential and embrace the many opportunities both within and outwith the school that we provide.
Staff at Preston Lodge are given opportunities to learn about Inclusive practice and how to successfully incorporate this into their classrooms. When students feel welcome, safe and happy, then that is the foundation of future success.
We work closely with our families and connected partners to understand their individual needs of the young person, and ensure that their voice is part of any plan or accommodation so that every student can harness their gifts and abilities, to develop them into skills which will shape their future.
Inclusion & Nurture are facets of the school’s cultural belief that all students belong, and that feeling of belonging is rooted in consistent relationships and experiences. We achieve this as a staff by being consistently flexible – consistent in our values and flexible in our planning. Our planning is guided by the essential principle that all students can succeed and it is our responsibility to create the structured environment to ensure that success.
