Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) and Our SCQF Ambassadors
Preston Lodge is proud to be part of the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF), which provides a clear and consistent structure for understanding and comparing qualifications in Scotland. The SCQF helps students, parents, employers, and education providers navigate the various qualifications available, from school-level awards to higher education and beyond. It allows individuals to see how different qualifications relate to each other, ensuring that their educational journey is well-structured and that they can make informed decisions about their learning path.
For more information about the SCQF please visit their website on https://scqf.org.uk/
OUR SCQF AMBASSADORS
As part of our commitment to supporting student growth and learner pathways, we are running the SCQF Ambassador Programme. This initiative empowers students to become knowledgeable advocates of the SCQF, helping their peers understand its importance and how they can use it to achieve their personal and professional goals. Through this programme, students gain valuable skills, build confidence, and play an active role in enhancing educational awareness within our school community.
Why did you become an SCQF Ambassador?
I became an SCQF Ambassador because I wanted people younger than me to get experience from the foundation apprenticeship and the benefits that come with it. I wanted to share information about the benefits like, work experience and the qualification that you can get at the end of the course.
Why did you become an SCQF Ambassador?
I want to help out others who so they know that they don't need to take a subject with an exam at the end of the year.
What alternative subjects have you completed and what did you gain from them?
I have completed Future asset which gave me a level 6 qualification and some prize money as it was like a competition.
Tell me about yourself, hobbies, interests etc?
I love to travel as I travel often and I love the snow.
Why did you become an SCQF Ambassador?
I wanted to become an SCQF Ambassador because having done level 7 Scottish Bagpipes and having done a very non-traditional S1-3 contrasting with a very traditional 5 Highers in S5 I really wanted to play a part in showing people that there is more than one route through school and that you can not only do SCQF levels as full subjects in school but also in addition to their Highers or National courses.
What alternative subjects have you completed and what did you gain from them?
I have completed SCQF level 7 Scottish bagpipes which has allowed me to gain a recognised grade in bagpipes. I also did level 5 health and wellbeing and level 7 Introduction to engineering fundamentals. These courses have all helped me to gain credit points towards university on top of my other subjects at school.
What are your hobbies & interests?
I am really interested in music, playing and teaching the bagpipes in the pipe band and my other hobbies include model railways and golf.
Why did you become an SCQF Ambassador?
To reduce student stress of following a specific path of qualifications by showing and informing them and parents that there are other options and ways to get where they need to be.
What alternative subjects have you completed and what did you gain from them?
Level 6 Musical Theatre: I learned how to interact with people I do not know very well and not be nervous and also to not be frightened to be myself.
Social Services Children and Young People: I learned to understand children a lot better and how to help and influence them in a positive way that's best for them.
What are your hobbies & interests?
I love music and singing. I can play Electric and Acoustic guitar, Drums and Keyboard.
I also volunteer at my local brownie unit as a young leader and have done for over 2 years.
