We all want our children to have a sustained positive destination when they leave school, It’s a team effort, with pupils, schools, parents/carers, partners and employers needing to work together to ensure that everyone leaves school as prepared for the world of work as they can be.
Developing Young Workforce is the employer led organisation whose priority is to make it easier for employers to connect with young people in schools across Scotland. Employers can ‘bring the curriculum to life’ by directly connecting the learning in the classroom to the world of work.
Employers can inform and inspire young people, helping them find out about career pathways in the growth sectors and helping them understand the relevance and importance of the essential ‘life skills’ (also referred to as ‘meta-skills’) in the world of work.
The Scottish Government funds DYW across Scotland and in East Lothian we have three School Coordinators supporting the region’s seven high schools. They work in partnership with us to in support of the School Improvement Plan and delivery a programme of employer engagements that align with the Career Education Standard 3-18.
It isn’t easy making decisions about your career. Not only have you to choose what job you want to do, you need to decide where you want to do it.

Skills Development Scotland curate a choices toolkit which aims to support pupils to make choices for their future career pathways.
The toolkit allows learners to connect subjects with potential career opportunities and relevant job profiles.
The toolkit can be accessed via the My World of Work website.
