This week we have been finding out what it is like to be a parent and be responsible for a "baby". Some of our egg babies have faired better than others!
Getting tucked in cosy.
A very cosy and cossetted baby!
Hoping for a better day!
Recovering from an injury!
Safe and sound
Keeping the baby occupied
Makeshift transport! Genius!

P7B are already exhausted the first few weeks into their final term! We have had a rugby lessons, sports day, science lessons at Knox Academy (great fun), we're learning all about being Company CEO's in Topic and learning our lines, songs, actions and dances for our End of Year Show. We are "rocking it".

A very busy P7B have put together their own political parties basing their priorities on what is important to them. Here is some of their political campaign material. I think that you will agree they have done a stellar job - a few MP's in the making. I'll post their party political broadcasts when they are completed.

The class had a great morning at the Rugby Festival. The weather was also great! We put our "touch rugby" skills into practice and had a number of games against the other P7 classes with the help and support of some of the S2s from Knox Academy. Here are a few photos from our morning.

Some of our more active numeracy work to try and get to grips with fractions. The cooperative groups were tasked with "demonstrating" a couple of real life fractions problems to show that they understood the process and that they could "visualise" the answer without having to use an algorithm.

Today we had our first rugby taster with the new Rugby Development Officer Colin. Everybody through themselves into the experience. We are having an inter class tournament next Thursday (24th March). Here are a few photos from our session.

We have started our new topic looking at the role of Government in society. So far, we have learned about the different styles of Government around the world, the different political ideologies and the major issues and priorities Governments have. Each cooperative learning group in the class took the different issues and "ranked" them according to which they believed was most to least important to them. Some very interesting results!

As part of our World Book Day celebrations we visited the nursery to read them some stories. I'm not sure who enjoyed themselves more? Maybe you can work it out.

Inspired by Frida Kahlo, the class have been re-creating some of the artists most famous still life paintings using only black paper and coloured overlays as part of their Spanish, Mexico and the Aztec topic. I think you will agree that they have been making an amazing job.

P7B have been making a huge effort over the past few weeks in their Spanish Language, Mexico and The Aztec topic. Lots of examples are shared below. We have all enjoyed learning Spanish together and trying to remember that a "v" often sounds like a "b" and "h" doesn't always get sounded, "j's" sound like "h's" and "ll" sounds like a "y". We are exhausted keeping all the pronunciation rules in our heads! Big Writing in Scot's language was fun as well as you can see from the photos.
This term we have also started our Digital Citizenship work - so far we've learned about Digital Resilience, Get the Media balance right, the curiosity gap and avoiding clickbait!

We have been learning about poetry in Big Writing over the last few weeks. This week we were writing animal themed poetry using different rhyming schemes. I think you will agree but we achieved our success criteria. Enjoy our poetry.

We have had a very busy start to the Term! We have already written some beautiful Haikus based on a winter theme, stories using Aztec glyphs to create our own codices and map work to find out more about Mexico, its place in the world and its main geographical features. Our Spanish pronunciation is coming along too.

This week we are learning about all things Scottish to coincide with St Andrew's Day. Keeping with our Science Topic we have been researching and drawing famous Scottish Scientists/Conservationists/Discoveries (Alexander Fleming, Dr Elsie Inglis, John Muir and Dolly the Sheep). We have also been learning some Gaelic vocabulary. Here are our work in progress art projects - I think you'll agree that they are very good.

This term we have been learning about substance abuse and the effect that it has on your health and wellbeing. A sensitive topic but one that has been well researched and discussed by the children. Each of the class cooperative learning groups researched a different illegal substance and produced a poster to explain it's dangers. We then carried out a "three stay, one stray" activity where the "expert" in each group visited all the other groups and passed on their knowledge. Please have a look at the work that we produced.

We keep forgetting to take photos in our excitement at doing practical science. We forgot to take photographs of our "bouncy egg" experiment, our CO2 balloon expanding experiment and our red cabbage acid rain indicator!! Sorry, but hopefully you have been told all about it at home. Here is the latest two that we have set up.
The first experiment was to create our own "Greenhouse Effect" to show what happens to the temperature when it has a blanket of greenhouse gases around it compared to without. The second experiment is a simple water cycle experiment as a side product of our acid rain experiments.

P7 enjoyed a great (if not a little wet) football tournament on Monday 8th November bringing together all the skills that they have learned in PE across the year group. Everyone managed to participate in a variety of roles from player, referee, team captain and time keepers. Roles were rotated throughout the tournament to work on critical sports skills.

The P7s were very lucky today to have two Kenyan Environmental scientists come to visit whilst they were in the country speaking at COP26. An amazing presentation on the effects of Climate Change and their efforts to offset carbon emissions with their work in keeping the native mangrove swamps healthy. Thought provoking and a great insight for the children as part of our COP26, Climate Change and Science topic.

We hope you enjoy looking at our Anderson Shelter models. Some interesting facts that you should know about them are:-
It would not protect you from a direct hit - Sandbags were used to protect from the concussive waves of bombs - they were prone to flooding because they were partially underground - people grew vegetables on top of their Anderson shelters - effective camouflage - poor people were provided with them, richer people had to pay for them (around £5) - they were painted green to blend in.
