Interdisciplinary Learning
(I.D.L - Jan - Mar 22)
We have undertaken a number of map work, languages and expressive arts activities throughout this term to support our learning; some simple Spanish and a little about the heritage and culture of Mexico's past and present. This has been an innovative and popular topic with our class - what an incredible amount of hard work has been achieved!
(Below: Aztec sun calendar designs, volcanoes, a waterfall and our own alter to remember those who have passed, in respect of the 'dios de los muertos' festival held every November.)
Ava (and her Dad) set up her volcano using a clever chemical reaction. Definitely a highlight of the topic, receiving a round of applause and a few cheers as the volcano finally erupted!
P7D were very excited to savour the flavours of Mexico. Very clean plates revealed we are adventurous and brave. It was extremely entertaining when Mr Smith and Mr Pelosi demonstrated how to eat hot chillies straight from the jar!!!!
Each of our co-operative learning groups discussed images and colours that best represented what we have discovered this term. After initial sketches, a final design was agreed and enlarged to create stunning displays!
Dead Man's Cove written by Lauren St John
When I first met P7D, as a whole, we weren't very keen on sharing a good read together. It was certainly a challenge to expect everyone to listen calmly and respectfully. I am absolutely delighted to reveal we now share rich and enjoyable listening time for a short period each day. Our most recent class novel has captured our imaginations. Excellent discussion, prediction and evaluation of events has made this novel a true pleasure to share with everyone. Very well done P7D!

We have been following a series of lessons exploring internet safety and digital citizenship this term. The lessons can be found in the materials section of our Google classroom. The content has helped us to hold serious and frank discussions about our use of social media and the internet for various purposes.
Our whole class worked together to make a visual representation of equivalent fractions. We have been using both concrete materials and abstract ideas successfully to solve fraction challenges.
Our writing has had a poetry focus this term. This week and next we are looking at the work of Burns and learning a little for a competition within our Haddington community. We carried out a number of practical activities to get to grips with our Scots language. (25.1.22)

We completed a number of Scottish themed challenges this week.
We researched Scottish scientists, including - John Muir, John Stagg, James Watt, John Logie Baird and Alexander Graham Bell.
We looked at the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and drew roses in his style.

Create a Scottish Menu
Create a Scottish Quiz
Research Scottish bands
We worked really hard to produce some excellent Christmas card designs for this year's school fund raising.
We had a fantastic afternoon, despite the rain, showing superb team and leadership skills.
P7D are particularly proud of the written work they completed during our WWII project. Recently we typed up our poetry for display alongside our remembrance poppy art. We have received lots of compliments for this work.
We brainstormed all the drugs we knew the names of and then, in groups, categorised them into;
prescribed, over the counter, socially acceptable or controlled.
We took a print of our bare foot using silver, black and bronze paint. Once dried, we wrote ways in which we create a carbon footprint and ways in which we can improve our impact on the planet. Some of us weren't too sure at first - but most enjoyed this 'squishy' reflective activity.
With the conference taking place in Glasgow this year we are looking at the issues raised and what we can do to help our planet, our future.
Izzy impressed our visitors with her knowledge and understanding of the issues raised. Everyone listened really well. This was an incredibly positive visit.
We worked in groups to explore 2 things.
A - a famous Scottish mathematician and their impact
B - a numerical system from history
We had a fantastic time questioning, investigating and sharing what we discovered.
Our interdisciplinary learning included Judaism and technologies.
We learned that gas masks were distributed but never needed.
We painted the backgrounds to represent the fire damage.
We cut out silhouettes with black paper to represent the infrastructure and planes.
Well done to everyone who took part in the house captain elections.
This is a safe way for our year group to meet and talk about issues relating to our learning each week.
We looked at the United Nations Rights of the Child and narrowed down the rights we felt related directly to our learning environment. From this learning we created our class charter. We gain house points for following the charter independently (alongside many other ways to gain points).
