Care Experienced Children and Young People

In October 2016, the First Minister made a commitment to figure out how Scotland could

"love its most vulnerable children and give them the childhood they deserve."

She commissioned the Independent Care Review and, between February 2017 when Fiona Duncan was appointed as Chair, and February 2020, the Care Review worked to figure out how to keep that Promise.

Additional Support for Learning Review

A review of the implementation of additional support for learning (ASL) in schools was announced in January 2019.  It concluded with the submission of the report and recommendations to Scottish Ministers and COSLA.

The review was led by Angela Morgan.

"The remit of the review was to consider the implementation of the legislation: across early learning and childcare centres, primary, secondary and special schools; the quality of learning and support; the different approaches to planning and assessment; the roles and responsibilities of support staff; and the areas of practice that could be further enhanced through better use of current resources to support practice, staffing or other aspects of provision."

Meeting the Needs of Autistic Learners

Autism is a common developmental difference, which is considered to be lifelong and present from birth.

The purpose of this Professional Guide is to provide support for teachers to reflect on their actions and consider whether they may need further advice or professional learning. The guide is intended to complement your East Lothian Council policies and to help you meet the needs of autistic learners.
