Godly Play was developed by Jerome Berryman as an innovative, Montessori-based approach to religious education. Children were invited to find meaning, identity and God through storytelling and wondering.Â
Godly Play uses visual and hands-on materials, such as specially created artifacts and symbolic objects, to powerfully engage children or adults in wonderment within a safe and supportive learning community. The teacher is a facilitator, supporter or guide who responds to the child's request to "help me do it by myself" (Nye, 2015).
We modelled our SEL Storytelling Curriculum after the Godly Play method. Each SEL story comes with a box of materials.
