It is the responsibility of every program to provide 90 hours of instruction time per semester.
Cancelling classes for snow, facility emergencies, or mass student illness will count against the hours you have scheduled which is why we recommend that programs build in more than 90 hours per semester so that you don't have to worry about makeup classes.
If you do not have more than 90 hours built into your schedule, you will either be required to offer makeup classes to your students on a different day or offer an online virtual synchronous option.
If you need to call a "snow day" - you can reach out to us to adjust this in your calendars in our SIS.
Makeup Classes:
Hopefully you have some makeup classes already built into your schedule prior to the start of the school year that act as "alternative" class days.
If not, you will need to add it to your calendar and communicate with Rachel Curtis for the purposes of adjusting your Synergy and attendance records. This is not ideal and adds a lot of work!
Synchronous Classes:
Synchronous class can be made up virtually during normal class days and hours if students and staff cannot make it to the normal course meeting place.
Synchronous means that the instructor must be live, accessible and able to interact and engage with students in real time. It cannot be a recording.
Make sure that your program is meeting the 90 hours of instruction time requirement for the students in your program. This is a critical piece that the CDE will look at for funding purposes.
