Setting up your margins:

Spacing:

Click "Line Spacing" icon shown in the image below. This will allow you to set the correct spacing for the paper.

Choose "Custom Spacing" (the last option on the list)

Heading and Title:

Use the model above as a reference.

Heading

Type the following information in to create the heading:

Your name
Your teacher/s name/s
Course name
Date (Day Month Year format)

Title

On the line immediately following the line with the date, center your text and type in the title of your paper. The title of the paper should not have any additional formatting (do NOT underline, highlight, use all caps or any other special formatting).

Header and Page Numbers:

Here’s how to add your last name to the HEADER.

NOTE: You will likely have to reset the font for your header (Times New Roman 12).
All pages in your document will be consecutively numbered, and your name will be on each page. (Note: It’s okay that the page number will be within the 1-inch margin field.)

Your last name must appear in the upper right-hand corner of every page, so you need to type it into a header. Just click the cursor into the very top of the page. You should see a faint gray line below your cursor. This indicates that your cursor is in the header area.

Next, you need to move the cursor to the right-hand side of the page by selecting the right-align tab and then type your name.

Here’s how to add the page number to the HEADER.

Your paper must be paginated consecutively, starting with page one and continuing to the end of your paper, including the Works Cited page. Page numbers should be placed in the header right AFTER your last name. Note: You need to add a space between your name and the page number.

Procedurally, in Google Docs you can add automatic pagination by going to the “Insert” tab, clicking on “Page Number” and selecting the correct placement (upper right-hand corner of the document).
