Insufficient Evidence?
Why do you think there's insufficient evidence?
Please check:
Is the missing item noted on the technical report from the checkers? If it is, then you know it's definitely not working and you can keep on with the portfolio review
If you download a file and use it in its native program, does it work? For example, some narrated PowerPoint slides only work in PowerPoint.
If you let the document or file load a little longer than you'd usually expect, does it work? We have found that some larger files need to buffer before appearing.
Automatically insufficient evidence
An assessment item is missing with no acceptable explanation (see right hand column for acceptable explanations)
An assessment item has been so minimally completed, or so plagiarised, that you cannot judge the student's work against the Achievement Standards. Please explain this when noting the "IE"
An assessment item is inaccessible (e.g. file is blank or locked to a specific sector or virtual learning environment). Schools were given the opportunity to fix this prior to moderation day
Use your professional judgement
An item is missing due to an estimate: if the other items in the suite of assessment support the grade awarded, then you're good to affirm the grade
An item is missing due to an acknowledged non-submission. This is probably already reflected in the teacher's assessment of the portfolio and you're good to go
An item does not allow higher order thinking. If one or more assessments did not allow the student to show their understanding of the course content and achievement standards at a particular grade level (e.g. A grade) then you may wish to make a grade change.
When there's insufficient evidence
Provide feedback on the quality of the assessment instruments, including their ability to assess the following:
Higher Order Thinking – be sure to mark this as unsatisfactory if this is what you and your moderation partner have decided
Reliability of Marking
Quality of Feedback to Students
Curriculum Coverage
If there are other student portfolios where evidence is sufficient, complete them as normal. For the insufficient one, label with IE and a comment saying why.
