The PE faculties focus is central to students learning in, about and through physical, recreational or sporting activity. Participation in a wide range of activities provides opportunities to develop, practise and apply appropriate skills and knowledge in varied and challenging environments. The curriculum enables college students to develop personal, interpersonal and physical skills, whilst promoting the whole person through intellectual, social, emotional and physical activities.
Within the faculty we provide courses suitable for all academic levels. Courses taught, with details below, are:
Physical Education A/M
Sport Recreation and Leadership A/M/V
Sports Development T/A
Exercise Science T/A/M (IB)
All discipline areas will expose students to knowledge and skills, which will assist them in gaining access to vocational pathways and further study in the areas of health, sports science, outdoor recreation, administration, fitness and sports coaching & management.
Extra-curricular activities are extensively promoted by the PE faculty. Student participation in college sport, outdoor education, and sports coaching & leadership programs help to form an integral part of the faculty's values of increasing participation levels and ensuring ‘Good Times’ are provided to the college student population. We aim to participate, based on student interest, in all inter-college sport activities. Over the last few years, we have been successful in Badminton, Table Tennis, Lawn Bowls, Ten-Pin bowling and Volleyball. Many of our college students have also been successful in representing the ACT in numerous sports as players and officials. This demonstrates our commitment to support students with skills in any area and encouraging all students to get involved.
The Talented Athlete Program (TAP) engages students from a wide range of sports and pursuits. It provides education and training opportunities to complement an athlete’s standard training program. Entry to the Talented Athlete Program is by application. Talented Athlete Program
Our Outdoor Education (OED) program allows students to develop outdoor skills in a variety of pursuits. The OED program exposes students to land and water-based adventure activities while teaching them about a variety of environmental factors associated with the activity being studied. Students' voice forms part of the consultation process when determining what excursions will be held each year. Past trips have included; surfing, snorkelling, high ropes, snowboarding, bush walking, horse riding, mountain biking. Students are able to opt into the year program or on a term by term basis, depending on their particular outdoor recreation interests.
The college PE faculty look forward to welcoming new students to their classes and sporting teams in 2021.
