LEAD
LEAD
LEAD stands for Leadership - Empathy - Action - Direction. Students involved in Year 10 LEAD will be offered a variety of leadership opportunities in the school and our community. Entry to the LEAD program is by application, with successful Year 9 students notified at the end of Term 3. The LEAD program targets students who have proven themselves to be leaders within the school with the opportunity to undertake leadership roles that improve and increase student involvement in all aspects of school and community life.
Students involved in LEAD are provided with a pathway to build leadership capacity through a number of roles in the school including inclusion activities for students, in particular Year 7, student health and wellbeing, school governance, school captaincy and student leadership forums. LEAD students aim to invest their leadership, ideas and passion back into Canberra High School.
Meeting Place: 210 or Main Staffroom
Cost: There will be costs involved for students participating in the Birrigai camp, Year 7 Camp and the Stand Tall Conference. We endeavour to keep costs down wherever possible.
How does this activity promote student voice at CHS
Students in LEAD develop leadership skills through the roles they undertake, as well as through targeted training in student leadership, social & emotional well-being and peer mentoring. Students, in taking a leadership role at the school, develop the ability and confidence to mentor students, lead projects within the school, model CARES values and foster the school ethos by acting as role models and providing direction. Students develop the skills to be proactive in problem solving, to work as part of a team, to undertake representative roles, and to value and set high standards and expectations for themselves and others.
