Jazz Band

Jazz Band at Canberra High School is an extension opportunity for students wanting to explore this broad genre of music. Unlike our regular class based bands, Jazz is extra curricular and vertically streamed, meaning anyone from Years 7 to 10 can join.

The repertoire is more challenging and broad ranged, with styles such as funk, soul and blues, as well as jazz covered by the band. Opportunities to learn to improvise and develop musical vocabulary exist in a fun space where all musicians are valued and encouraged.

The main performance goal of this group is participation in theAustralian National Eisteddfod Jazz section, where the band has won multiple gold awards, as well as winning the Karen Taalty Jazz Award in 2022 and 2023. The band also plays at school events and Floriade.
