Interview 3: FINAL INTERVIEW
Interview 3: This is the summative interview for CAS and takes place in February/March of the Year 13. In this interview the student outlines how they have achieved the learning outcomes / competencies, discusses and evaluates their overall CAS programme and reflects on personal growth.
This is a conversation about YOU and what you have learned as a result of being involved in CAS / SL
The CAS Coordinator, the Mentor and the IB coordinator will confirm that the CAS requirements have been met after the 3rd interview.
To successfully complete CAS, students must:
Actively engage in a balance of Creativity, Activity, and Service experiences over 18 months. (DP)
Compete 50 hours of Service Learning. (CP)
Document and reflect on their experiences.
Complete a sustained CAS / SL project that involves collaboration and follows the Service Learning stages.
Maintain a thorough CAS / SL portfolio to document their journey.
Sample Questions: Your Mentor might ask you some of these during your FINAL Interview
1. Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
"Looking at your documented experiences in the Learner Passport, can you identify a specific instance that highlights a personal strength or an area where you have grown?"
"Which CAS / SL experience pushed you outside of your comfort zone, and how did it help you grow?"
"How has identifying your strengths and areas for growth helped you set personal goals and challenges within CAS /SL?"
2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
"Review your Learner Passport entries. Can you point to an experience where you overcame a challenge and developed a new skill? What evidence supports this?"
"Tell me about a time when you had to adapt your approach to overcome an obstacle in a CAS / SL project. What did you learn?"
"How has overcoming challenges in CAS helped you develop resilience or confidence in other areas of your life?"
3. Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
"Using an example from your Learner Passport, can you describe an experience where you led the planning and preparation stages? What documentation shows your initial steps?"
"What steps did you take in the planning phase of a CAS / SL project to ensure it was meaningful and achievable?"
"How has planning and initiating CAS experiences taught you skills that apply to your academic or personal projects?"
4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
"Is there an experience in your Learner Passport that demonstrates your commitment over time? How does this entry show your perseverance?"
"Can you describe a time when you wanted to give up on a CAS / SL experience but chose to persevere? What motivated you?"
"How has sticking with your CAS / SL experiences taught you about goal-setting and staying focused over time?"
5. Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
"Can you identify an entry in your Learner Passport where you collaborated with others? How does this example reflect your role and contributions in a team setting?"
"How did working with others contribute to the success of your CAS / SL projects?"
"What skills did you learn from collaborating with others, and how do you see these benefiting you in future team environments?"
6. Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
"In your Learner Passport, do you have an experience that addresses a global or community issue? How does this documentation show your engagement with this issue?"
"How did one of your CAS / SL experiences contribute to addressing a global issue or community need?"
"How has working on issues of global or community significance changed the way you view your role in the world?"
7. Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
"Can you point to a documented experience in your Learner Passport where you had to make an ethical decision? How did this reflection capture your thought process and actions?"
"Were there any ethical dilemmas you faced during your CAS /SL experiences? How did you handle them?"
"How has considering the ethics of your choices in CAS / SL influenced how you approach ethical questions in other areas of life?"
8. Develop international-mindedness through global engagement, multilingualism, and intercultural understanding
"Is there an entry in your Learner Passport that illustrates how you engaged with a different culture or language? How did this experience impact your international-mindedness?"
"How did interacting with different cultures or communities through CAS / SL impact your worldview?"
"How has engaging with different languages or cultures during CAS /SL helped you understand different perspectives, and how might this be useful in the future?"
