The Garden Science Committee is a free PTA-sponsored STEAM-based program for all Aviators!
Such a great turnout to kick off our legacy project! We finished phase 1A of our plan. The decaying garden beds have been removed, and the soil has been leveled off. For the Saturday, February 10th workday, we will be constructing the garden beds. We will also be removing the decaying wood in the science area. Bring cardboard boxes if you have them. Please have the labels and tape removed. Thank you so much for all the support! We look forward to seeing you again in February!
Garden Club has some exciting things happening! Our garden beds having been falling apart, and we're finally able to replace them. We will be rebuilding the garden beds with the help of a TK parent, Kevin Cho, who is a contractor and volunteered to help. Thank you, Kevin!
This is a great opportunity we don't want to pass up! We also have support from an Eagle Scout, Kara, who wants to help in the Kinder Garden makeover as part of her scout project. She will have her troop supporting her for garden work.
We also have plans to replace the irrigation. This is still in the planning phase, so if anyone has any ideas, please reach out!
If anyone is curious about how we will build the garden beds, here is a helpful video: DIY Raised Bed Planter With Planter Wall Blocks
Not all garden beds will be at the same phase in the same time period. Dates are very flexible but we use them as a guide to move the project forward.
Right now here are ways to help:
planning
shopping for supplies and coordinating deliveries between vendors and the school
event flyers, community education and awareness of this project
volunteer recruitment (all ages and abilities welcome!)
planning and coordinating seed-starting (indoors)
participate in the school-wide drive for supplies that will fill the garden beds (cardboard, dry leaves and sticks, logs, etc).
Looking forward to kicking off this project with everyone's support. This is something we will all be super proud of and that our Earhart community will be able to enjoy for years.
Spread the word, and please join us!
Our first phase will begin this Saturday, January 27th from 9:30-11:00am. Bring your shovel and any cardboard you can spare! Hope to see you there!
